Coconut Cream vs. Coconut Milk — What’s the Difference?
- 🥥 Coconut cream (this product): Higher fat content, thicker consistency, richer and more intense coconut flavor — use when you want a rich, creamy result
- 🥛 Coconut milk: More water, thinner consistency, lighter flavor — use for soups, rice, or when a lighter coconut flavor is preferred
- 💡 Rule of thumb: Coconut cream for richness and body; coconut milk for a lighter touch. Both available in our store
How to Use
- 🍛 Thai curry & laksa: The classic use — add to your curry paste and aromatics for a rich, velvety sauce. Stir in at the end to preserve the fresh coconut flavor
- 🍮 Coconut jelly (椰漿凍鸿豁): Combine with coconut milk, gelatin, and a little sugar for the viral coconut jelly dessert — Kara is the brand most commonly used in the popular recipe
- 🍨 Dairy-free ice cream: Blend with fruit and sweetener, then freeze — the high fat content gives a creamy, scoopable texture
- 🍰 Desserts & puddings: Use in pandan cake, mango sticky rice, kaya jam, or any Southeast Asian dessert that calls for coconut cream
- ☕ Coffee & drinks: A spoonful in coffee or tea as a rich dairy-free creamer; essential for piña coladas and coconut-based cocktails
- 🍲 Soups & stews: Stir into pumpkin soup, sweet potato soup, or any pureed soup for added richness and a subtle coconut note
Tips for Best Results
- 🥤 Separation is normal: The thick cream may separate from the liquid inside the carton — this is natural. Shake well before opening for a uniform consistency, or scoop out the thick cream separately for whipping or rich sauces
- ❄️ For whipped coconut cream: Refrigerate overnight, then scoop out the solidified cream and whip with a little sugar and vanilla
- 🔥 Add at the end: For curries and soups, stir in coconut cream near the end of cooking to preserve its fresh flavor and prevent separation
